Redheads and Canvasbacks – Fairfield

Jim Orrico and I headed out for a day of birding locally, specifically targeting large congregations of gulls and waterfowl. Our last stop on a fairly uneventful day was Ash Creek where we located a flock of 21 Canvasback and 2 Redhead. Redhead is a species I’ve only seen in Fairfield once, and my looks weren’t close to as good as the ones I got today. Photos below:

    What beautiful ducks! I’ve never seen the red headed ducksbut have seen the canvasbacks. Their colors are so vibrant–just love those birds!
